Perfect Location for Outdoor Fun
Our Maine Coast Inn and Restaurant is located at the end of a quiet road and is connected via a walkable causeway to the Clark Island Preserve. The Inn is halfway between Rockland and the Marshall Point Lighthouse. It feels very secluded and peaceful, but you’re a short 15-minute drive from the heart of downtown Rockland. Close enough to be near to everything, but removed enough to fully relax.
Gateway to the Clark Island Preserve
Clark Island, overseen by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust, is a magical place located just across the causeway from our MidCoast Maine bed and breakfast. With miles of hiking trails, sandy beaches, and tide pools, there is a lot to take in. In addition, guests can explore the island’s many ecological features, including intertidal salt marshes, mudflats, and beaches, many of which are designated as significant wildlife habitats by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Guest Rooms
The Main Inn holds 8 guest rooms & suites in various configurations to accommodate a wide variety of guests. The seasonal Vestry building behind the Inn provides 8 additional guest rooms that are dog-friendly. Every room is appointed with luxurious Brooklinen and Comphy sheets and towels, and the rooms in the Main Inn also feature robes.
Wi-Fi
The Craignair has excellent Wi-Fi (for Maine)! Our Spectrum service with high speed wireless provides our guest with great internet availability during their stay. Many guests choose to take their video calls or meetings here at The Craignair in order to sneak an extra day or two out of their vacation while WFM (working from Maine).
Common Spaces
The living room provides a place for guests to gather in front of the cozy fireplace, read a book from our library, play the piano, pick a guitar, or choose a game or puzzle to keep you entertained for hours. Grab the house telescope for a closer look at the sea lion colony on the ocean rocks below or just relax on a sofa with a local newspaper or magazine.
Our waterfront lawn, slopes gently towards the shoreline. There are classic Adirondack chairs available for guests to enjoy. And we often light a fire in the fire pit on summer nights.
Breakfast
A delicious homemade breakfast is included every morning of your stay at The Craignair. All dishes are made-to-order and, as with all food served at The Craignair, are made from the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients.
Along with staples, such as Maine blueberry pancakes, you’ll find a rotating selection of amazing options to choose from based on what is fresh and in-season. We also provide a selection of juices and custom Craignair dark roast coffee from local Rock City Roastery for your enjoyment.
Restaurant & Bar
The Causeway restaurant is located on the first floor of the main inn and offers panoramic ocean views while you enjoy your homemade breakfast. During peak season, we also offer dinner 5 nights a week. During the winter months, The Causeway is open 4 nights a week, plus Sunday brunch. We also host a very popular New Year’s Eve celebration each year.
The deck offers additional seating and provides you with a chance to really connect with the ocean views while enjoying your meal. The high top tables are the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail, conversation, or take in the view.
Cancellation Policy
We have updated our reservation and cancellation policy to provide you with more flexibility and peace of mind when booking accommodations:
- Reservations at our Maine Coast inn can be moved or canceled up to 2 weeks before the earliest possible arrival time (3 pm) for your reservation less a $50 per room cancellation charge.
- If the cancellation or rescheduling is made with fewer than 14 days notice, we regret to note the deposit is forfeited and you would be responsible for the entire bill unless we are able to rent the accommodations to someone else.
- Full balance becomes due and payable and is non-refundable on the day of arrival.
- We hope you understand that, unlike larger hotel chains, we are a small family-run Inn and require a bit more time to try to recover lost income. Please call us with any questions or concerns.
Group Rentals, Extended Stays, and Wedding Packages are subject to special terms and conditions.
Group Cancellation Policies:
This refund policy pertains to rooms booked within a group block of 3 or more rooms (for example – a wedding, family reunion, or other rooms booked together). If the room is canceled 31+ days before check-in date, 50% of the room deposit shall be refunded. If the room is canceled 30-14 days before the check-in date, the full room deposit shall be forfeited. For rooms canceled less than 14 days before check-in, the full balance will be due.
